Hey Nelda,
I got your invitation, thanks. I am with you; we librarians have a great position in that we can give people what they want AND what they didn't know they wanted! Like you, I have a background in world languages (German), and you are right: if there's a way to get folks to talk and understand each other, let's do it!
I will have a picture soon-- we've been in the wild north of Michigan, and have been out of contact with technology (although we could get mobile phone service!).

About Me:
Presently a children's librarian, formerly an international studies/language educator, and missing the great, big WHOLE world! I love to find new ways to give kids a look outside the tiny little bit of the world we occupy. I've been so lucky to have been hither and yon...and want to share those experiences and knowledge with everyone I work with.

Why do people giggle when I say "global" and "librarian" in the same sentence?

OK...maybe tha'ts hyperbole...people don't literally erupt into laughter, or even giggle politely into their hands. But when I make mention to others---even other librarians----that I prefer a "global perspective" (meaning considering the world at large), they react as if I've said, "Three cheers for stupidity!".

Having been a World language teacher, a global studies teacher/curriculum planner, and having worked in the corporate world on global initiatives (yes, that means outsourcing)
